The 4 Keys to Mastering your time:
As Paul Tsika says, "Life is time, and time is life." The successful use of your time is the most important thing in a successful completion of your goal. Paul says, " To waste your time is to waste your life, and mastering your time is mastering your life."
After listening to Paul Tsika's podcast on his 4 Keys of Mastering Time, I decided to apply them to my own life, to then yield amazing results! In this post, I will be sharing with you those 4 Key Principles, how I applied them, and the benefits they have given me in my life.
Here are the 4 keys I learned to Mastering Time:
1. Plan your day
Take a few minutes at the beginning of your day or at the end of your day to reflect and decide what tasks need to be done for your day to be considered productive. You can do anything from make a to do list to entering time slots in your planner dedicated to certain tasks. Make sure to put little notes prioritizing each task like due dates, consequences or rewards to help motivate you.
I tend to list tasks in priority and I think about the time urgency and the importance of the task towards your goal. These priorities will solely rely on your ideas of importance. It also helps me to make my to do list and plan my day the night before, so I can wake up and already have a purpose to my day. I have also noticed people finding success in adding a planning time to their morning routine after exercise, meditation, or yoga. This gives them time to clear their minds for the start of their day.
2. Make Appointments With Yourself
My most influential mentor had stolen a glance at my calendar and said, "Do you have any appointments with yourself?" I said, "No, this is for appointments with other people, the rest of the time is working for myself." When he told me I needed to make appointments with myself I was so confused, but the way he explained, "You get tasks done when you make appointments with other people. If you make appointments to get your own work done at a certain time, you are more likely to get it done."
If you have something on your to do list that has a time commitment, write down the date and how many hours you believe it will take, then write in your calendar when you will work on it. You can spread out these appointments depending on how much time it will take.
3. Take it a little bit at a time!
I put a side an hour a day to write. I typically switch between writing and typing. After so many years of writing, I was able to speed up my writing to a pretty fast pace. If you think of the big picture, after one month, I have spent 30 hours on writing. Two months later I would have 60 hours of focused under my belt. I could have a full book by then, and it does not seem too hard to handle from a day to day basis.
There are methods out there you can use to chunk your time in the most productive ways like the Pomodoro Method - You can read more about this Here. It says that to part your days into a 25-minute productivity time and 5 minute break. There's also a similar method promoting a 52-minute productive time and 17 minute break. Either way, find what works for you.
4. Know Your Most Productive Time
Knowing the most productive time of your day can be put to getting the most crucial task on your to do list done for the day. To find your most productive time, do a little self reflection while you are going through your day. Know when you feel the most energy and when you start to crash. Some people feel their most clear minded time is right after exercise, some people believe it's right before going to bed.
Everyone's most productive time is different. There's not one person the same as another. For me, my most productive time is in the morning about 2 hours after I wake up. At this same time, someone could be in the groggy time of their day. Some of us start to feel sluggish at 3:00 in the afternoon, where some people are only then starting to get their energy boosts. Everyone is unique and productive in their own way.
...
Today is YOUR day! Go crush it!
